PRSA Certification

Standards for Certification in Education for Public Relations 2005-2006 (PDF file)

PRSA, through the Educational Affairs Committee, provides a certification review process for university undergraduate public relations programs. In 1989, the Certified in Education for Public Relations (CEPR) Program was established to offer colleges and universities the opportunity for review and endorsement of their public relations education program. CEPR is a voluntary program.

The review process is conducted by two Accredited PRSA members, one practitioner and one educator, who examine the curriculum, resources, facilities, faculty qualifications and university support provided public relations education. Meetings are conducted with faculty, the department chair, the dean, PRSSA officers, student agency officers, the PRSSA professional advisor and public relations students. Calls are also made to local professionals and to PRSA members to learn their evaluation of graduates from the public relations program as well as to graduates of the program to learn how they evaluate their educational experience. The intensive two and one-half day review culminates in a meeting of the team with the academic vice president and/or the president of the university.

The universities and schools which have completed the review process and which have been granted PRSA Certification for six-year time periods by the PRSA Board of Directors are:
