Betsy Plank Scholarship Endowment Fund

December 5, 2005

Dear PRSSA Member:

Having decided to engage in the study of public relations, you understand how education helps to strengthen and diversify the profession. Since 1989, the Betsy Plank Scholarship has made this a reality for students at more than 40 colleges nationwide. To honor Betsy Plank, APR, Fellow PRSA, and ensure the future availability of scholarship funds, the PRSA Foundation has established a Betsy Plank Scholarship Endowment Fund. We have launched the endowment campaign and request your Chapter’s pledge of support.

This endowment honors a beloved individual who has made it her mission to establish, encourage and ensure public relations education. A champion of public relations education, Betsy Plank co-chaired the 1987 Commission to develop guidelines for undergraduate public relations curriculum in the U.S. She was the first woman to serve as president of PRSA in 1973, and she continues to support PRSA’s initiative in encouraging certification review of public relations studies. In 2006, Betsy will celebrate 25 years of commitment and active leadership as the co-chair of the Champions for PRSSA, an organization of current and retired public relations professionals who directly support undergraduate education in public relations.

The Betsy Plank Scholarship Endowment Fund will extend her legacy in a meaningful and powerful way for future public relations students. We are asking your Chapter to pledge a tax-deductible gift to encourage PRSA members and supporters, friends of Betsy Plank, and public relations professionals and agencies to join the endowment campaign. Your pledge will serve as a public seal of approval for the PRSA Foundation’s scholarship program and the work it has done for the past 20 years to ensure the education of undergraduate students in public relations.

Please join us by completing the attached form and mailing it, along with your pledge or contribution payable to the PRSA Foundation by the end of the school year, to The Betsy Plank Scholarship Endowment Fund c/o PRSA Foundation, 33 Maiden Lane, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10038.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact me or Ival Grant-Williams, Grants Development Manager at 212-460-1424 or send e-mail inquiries to foundation@prsa.org.
